Licensed Esthetician

If you're searching for a rewarding career opportunity you may want to consider the field of esthetics. Estheticians work at day spas, medical spas, dermatologist offices and salons. They can do facials, waxing, makeup application and other skin related beauty treatments.To become a licensed esthetician you must complete a rigorous training program and pass both hands-on and written exams required by the state board. Many esthetic professionals continue their education long after they have established their career in order to stay informed about the newest trends and innovations in the industry.

The salary of an esthetician or aesthetician (a less common spelling of the word) can vary widely depending on services offered, level of experience, geographic location, employer, clientele and more. Your salary may range from $15,000 to $50,000 or more. There is a great deal of flexibility in this career field because of the employment choices available to you. As mentioned before estheticians may work for day spas, salons or even medical facilities. Some even open their own businesses. There are many directions in which you can expand your education and career.

If you are considering a career in esthetics you should look into a school cosmetology program. Cosmetology is a field that encompasses not only skin care but hair and nail care also. If you are only interested in skin care you might want to find out if there is a specialized esthetician school in your area. Many massage schools offer esthetician programs. When deciding upon your education make sure the school is accredited and you will be able to take all necessary state exams upon completion of the program. The duration of your schooling will depend on the particular educational program you've chosen.

For example, someone training to be a licensed esthetician may also complete a cosmetology program that teaches them to do hair or nails. Some estheticians train in massage also which allows them to offer more services to clients. Certain programs may only take six months to complete while others may take two years or more. For these reasons and others it is important to carefully consider your education budget, career goals and personal preferences before enrolling in any esthetics program. Any school you're considering should have an admissions counselor or advisor who can answer your questions and tell you more about the particular course of study you're interested in.
