Esthetics License

Anyone whose goal is to become a licensed esthetician will need a certain amount of training and education. In order to get an esthetics license, you must fulfill the requirements as specified by your state board. You can find out more about the requirements in your state by researching them on the Internet. Different states have different requirements. For example in New York you must complete 600 hours of study through a state accredited program. In Alabama you are required to have completed twice that much.


If you are considering this career field you may need more information about what an esthetician actually does. These specialists are trained to do facials, hair removal, makeup application and more. Some estheticians specialize in a particular area while others offer a range of services. There are different skill levels in this field including Master Esthetician. To become a Master Esthetician you must complete additional training. The salary you can expect for any esthetician job will vary depending on a wide range of factors. Your level of experience, location, who you work for and what services you offer all make a difference.

The good news is that esthetics can be a lucrative career to get into. It offers flexibility as far as job options go because you can work a wide variety of places. You will find estheticians in day spas, medical spas, dermatologists' offices, plastic surgeons' offices and even beauty salons. Of course you can also go into business for yourself if you want to be your own boss. You may want to gain a reputation as a skilled facialist or waxer. Or maybe you want to offer a wide range of different services rather than having a specialty. It's up to you.

Of course before you begin dreaming of your lucrative new job or business, you need to take care of all the legalities first. After obtaining your education you can test for your esthetics license. Once you are licensed you may begin searching for jobs or plan your business. If you are starting a business that will also require additional licenses such as a business license and/or zoning license.
