An esthetician is a skin care professional who is state licensed. In order to become state licensed, it is necessary to attend an accredited training program and pass the state board exam. Different states have different requirements. For example in California, New York and Nevada the requirement is 600 hours of training. Other states may have longer requirements. There are basic programs then there are master classes for estheticians who want to take their education and their career as far as it can go. Master estheticians enjoy a higher rate of pay and can perform more services for their clients when compared to basic estheticians.

By the time your course is complete you should feel confident taking the state exam and ready to begin a career in the world of esthetics.
